Have ordered an Audio Research VS 115 amp to drive them. I have a C 220 pre amp, MCD 201 cd player and a Krell Kidd iPod dock. This will be one of my secondary systems that resides in my den. Weather here in Michigan was horrible today. More snow and ice. Putting off the trip to pick them off until tomorrow.

Hello all,

I was hoping to get some insight from people who may have heard both these Auditor M's and the new 805 Diamonds from B&W as I these are atop my short list. I have had the opportunity to hear the 805's and was very impressed. I don't have any experience with SF but like what I read.

I know this is a SF thread, so I expect to receive very impartial opinions.

I plan on adding a nice sub in the future (JL?), and have read that most here like the REL with the M. But that is a matter for another day, I suppose.

Thank you so much in advance, and I apologize if this has been discussed ad nauseam. If that is the case, I would really appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction.

Default My apologies in advance...

Hi everyone,

As a newbie to the Sonus Faber line; specifically the Cremona M Auditors- are you connecting to the 8 ohm or 4 ohm tap on your amplification? I have them connected to the 4 ohm taps given that their 4 ohm speakers... what happens at 8-ohms?

Thanks in advance,

Before your pull the trigger on the B&W, you really need to go listen to the SFs and let your ears decide. When I read about the diamond series, I got the upgrade fever. I have B&W 703s, but always thought they sounded a little thin for my ears for music--although they're great for home theater. Like you, I'd also read great things about SF, but had never had a chance to hear them.

I went in to my local B&W dealer but he didn't have the model I wanted to hear (803di) in stock. But I happened to be going into Chicago. So I stopped in at the Magnolia store after hearing that they had the full line of B&W Diamonds in stock. What I didn't realize until I got there was they also had Cremona Ms and Auditor Ms.

Everybody's ears are different. But I was actually disappointed by the Diamond series. Yes, they are fast and accurate. Trebles are great. But I thought the mids were overpowering and overall they were lacking bass. Some of it was probably the positioning and set up as that was certainly not done with the care of my local shop. And I'm sure I could add a sub and probably been happy. But I would have had to step up to the 802s to get the sound I was after--but those were out of my price range.

After hearing my reaction, the Magnolia rep suggested that I give the SF a listen. I did and all I can say is wow! To my ears, the SF just have more depth. I was impressed with the auditors, but I bought the Cremona M's as I was in the market for floor standers. I've had them for about 6 months and couldn't be more happy. I don't want to overly diss the B&Ws. In fact, I kept mine for home theather use. But I spend my time listening to the Cremonas. The difference for me is that now i hear music; I don't spend my time thinking that I wish I was listening to a better recording.

So again, listen to both and let your ears decide. Happy Shopping!

Hola Nuz - welcome to the fold.

B&W in my 'hear music' system. Sonus faber in my 'listen to music' system.

Remember that a speaker has an impedance that varies (hopefully not too much) with frequency. So while it appears the 4 ohm tap should be best, it can't hurt to try the 8 ohm tap.

Thank you metaphacts. I will attempt that once my state has power again... Hurricane Irene safely left out state but took our ability to power anything.

In response to eightzerozerodelta; as you can see by my photo; I've owned the 805Di since its release; owned a pair of 802D's; and more recently became an Sf Cremona M Auditor owner. Each speaker is unique; and as above- to every listener a different experience. It's always been about system synergy for me. The genre of music you listen to; source material; and the front end providing the driving sources. In a perfect world, you take home what you're most interested in- apply it to your room; w/ or w/o treatments; and begin the auditioning process with your gear and music. Ultimately, as its been said before... your ears will know which speaker or system is better for you...

PM me if you need more details or have specific questions... happy listening.
