Jérôme.......I used a pair of McIntosh MC30 mono tube amps, and later a McIntosh MA230 integrated tube amp. Both the mono amps and the integrated amp outputs were 30 watts per channel, and more power than I needed with the Valencia's. Before the Valencia's I owned a pair of Altec Voice of the Theater speakers, and powered them with the MC30's. Tremendous sound.

Also, just to let you know, I am positive I would enjoy a listening experience with Shindo gear. I fully understand what you said to me in your previous post.

Stephen thanks for the pictures and report, very interesting! I was wondering, and perhaps I missed it, what model Esoteric SACD/CD player does your friend David have? I once had a model X-01 which is now gone. I miss it from time to time, but have made the move to a computer/DAC based system.

Interestingly I live in the Marin area too, not too far from your friend, probably a 20-25 minute drive. I have a Shindo system with DeVore 0/96s....and a A23 SUT...

Is there anything that comes in as a close second to Shindo?

My first choice is vinyl, but Shindo + digital sounds great. Not "modern," and def not "classic."

Barr,
It's an Esoteric X-01!

Damn! I knew it looked familiar! I am feeling a moment of remorse now. I sold it to help fund my move back to vinyl and tubes...

Drop that thing on your foot and you need a new foot, very well built.

Well, I guess we'll have to arrange a get-together! You and David could share Shindo best practices!

That would be fun indeed! If nothing else I could provide an A23 Hommage T2 for the vinyl experience..
