Default Mac6700

My MAC6700 is going back to Binghamton, NY. 13 mons an 10 days of use before incident happened - maybe 600 hrs total. Unit would not power up but standby light was lit. Tried another outlet but same result. Was not able to reset microprocessors either. I took to dealer I bought from but he is no longer a McIntosh dealer so he said he was not authorized to send back. He made a call to a nearby Best Buy/Magnolia and they were happy to help. We'll see how the outcome will be. I have already reached out to Chuck Hinton at McIntosh. I am sure all is well but just the inconvenience of it all for such a young piece has me a bit perplexed. Now enjoying my Bluetooth speaker from Grain Audio.

Unit was connected to an APC 20S conditioner.

Kevin

Kevin.......Thank goodness for the three year warranty. It will come back ready for action. An internal part failure happens from time to time. It's part of the hobby, albeit the part none of us want to endure.

Chuck H. called this morning and said most likely just a software issue and recommended uploading the newest version. Unit not with me now but wouldn't matter since I am MacIntosh Apple at home anyway. Hopefully when Magnolia speaks with Mc they can decide if it is worth their time to try and upload the sw.

It would have cost me in excess of $250 to ship with UPS if I needed to. $500 for RT! Warranty work does not cover shipping via small print on warranty paper.

I had same issue with my MAC6700. Mine was only 4 months old. My dealer was able to negotiate a new unit. New software (firmware) did not solve issues with mine. New unit has been perfect!

Failures such as this seem to be a regular occurrence in McIntosh products which rely on firmware.

I wonder what it will mean for equipment as it becomes older and what the support for it will be.

I had a MAC6700 for nearly two years, and had a similar problem. I had my receiver plugged into a Furman, but the distribution wires in my neighborhood (at the time) were old and failures were so common, our electric supplier replaced them. A power "blip" caused the firmware to corrupt. I called my local dealer, they sent someone out and installed what was then the newest version of the firmware, and the unit powered up fine after that.

I had some issues with my MX122. They too said it needed a software update.
It took almost a month to get it back.
