Speakers for near-boundary positioning
Can my fellow AA'ers suggest speakers that work well without being two or more feet out from boundary walls etc.?
I assume (always dangerous...) that anything without rear-firing or side-firing ports would be OK, but no real knowledge, just a hunch. I haven't a budget figure in mind, but times are hard!

Go for bottom ported. I have had good luck with B&W 802 for this reason

WLM La Scala is bottom ported very high sensitivity and decent price on used market.

Audio Note speakers are designed to be close to boundaries. Also look at the Heco Direkt or it's larger sibling as they are bottom ported and wide baffled. Should work well closer to walls.

I currently have my Sopra no2's at around 1 feet from the rearwall with excellent results.
The placement is because one of the rules of un-even placement. They are on the long side of the wall. If I place them on the short side, it will not work at all and I need 2+ meters behind them for them to shine. This is also because of my room, which has glass on one side. If you google the Allison effect, it will give you some information about why having speakers close or very far from the backwall (2+ meters) can be a good thing, instead of inbetween. Remember the listening position is around same importance as the speaker positioning. |

Might as well mention the Salon2s. They're built to cope with matching boundaries as one of their design criteria.

I had thought of Studio2s, but I cannot get a demo anywhere, let alone a home trial.

Speakers that maintain controlled-directivity. Otherwise you are going to be splashing sound on the walls resulting in more than normal distortion.
