I would really like to know if they went with the ESS 9038PRO chip for this.

Last and only was the MDA700. I have to agree with Randy Myers in that I wish it had at least one analog input so that I could connect my tuner to it.

That would be nice, I have to admit. I'm still thinking about buying though. I suspect they put a lot of effort into D1100 match with the C1100. And I am a fan of Mcintosh DACS. I love the MDA1000 and the D100 is no slouch! Last edited by JBT; 12-13-2016 at 09:44 PM. |

Agree, I would like to know what chip they are using as well.

Well...... I'm very interested in buying one. If does two important task!
1.) Just sounds better than my MDA1000. I'll might accept just a good if the next point is met! 2.) Trans-code DSD and PCM native, and NOT just pass DSD into PCM. If that was done why even bother making D1100. I expect that nonsense from lesser costing DAC's!!! Then I'll gladly join the USB club as a viable audio connection. Ken

Judging that the D150 used the 9016 when most other companies had been using the 9018 for quite some time makes me think they probably are not using the most up to date chips, especially when the 9028 PRO are just starting to be used and I am not 100% sure if any DACs using the 9038 PRO are actually available to buy quite yet. |

I have the Wyred4S Dac1V2 on order and it will not be available for at least another month. Only the 9028's as in Randy's Benchmark are out there. Having talked to ESS I learned that all the new PRO series chips are basically the same. Only difference being in tolerances. I.E. SNR and dynamic range. Along with variations in implementing by different manufacturers. But still basically the same. The 9026 in the Dac1 V2 will not have the same dynamic range and noise specs which I doubt I could hear as the 9028 or 9038 but will have the same architecture as all of them. Some chips notably the 9028 and 9038 will be in pre-dacs. The 9026 is for implementation in pure dacs and players.
Hope this helps. |

I'd consider it but I'm definitely not looking forward to another component that needs to be continually brought to my "local" service center ( 45 min each way w two round trips per update) for firmware updates. A broken record at this point but they truly need to address their update processs ASAP before they are left completely behind. With a totally new component like this you can bet there will be several upcoming updates.
