Kevin.......Good trouble shooting advice. In tube components the tubes are always suspect when performance changes.

Kia.......Unless you are using both the moving magnet and moving coil phono stages in your C2300 preamplifier, you only need to install four of your new Gold Lion 12AX7/EEC83/B759 tubes. Just leave the stock tubes in the phono stage you are not using. This way you will have a pair of new spares for the future.

Gold Lion will be an improvement over the OEM tubes that Mc uses. Also, if you don't use the phono stages you can keep the OEM tubes in place. if you do use the phono stages (MC or MM) whichever one you don't use you can keep the OEM in that place.

OOPS. Dan and I must have been reply at the same time. Great minds think alike.

Grasshopper has learned from the master.

Thank you for your suggestions. As you correctly pointed out the test confirmed that the performance problem was due to a bad tube - which is now in the left MC slot given that i don't plan on using. When they arrive, I will use the Gold Lion tubes on the main and MM slots.
Thanks again and i look forward to hearing my c2500s with the new tubes. This saved me a trip to the shop. Love this forum.

Thx Joe ! We seems to have settled with very similar McIntosh configuration.

C2300 was hard to get but totally worth the wait and its weight in sound of music.

Best,
AJ

I just bought a C2300 and I thought to change line tubes because I don't know if they are used. I'm looking to purchase Gold Lion but several models are available. Do we have a huge difference between those produced in Russian and China?
