MX-150 used with an analog tape deck

Hi folks,

I am trying to integrate a ReVox PR99 1/4" half-track stereo tape recorder into my system based around an MX-150. The PR99 has XLR outputs only and I have XLR to XLR as well as XLR to RCA cables to use as necessary.

As far as I can tell, the MX-150 does not have connectivity analogous to the tape loop or processor loop of old. The output of the tape deck can be handled easily via either one of the eight stereo RCA inputs or one of the two balanced XLR inputs.

The problem I am having is where to I find an output on the MX-150 that is a line output without any processing whatsoever applied to it. Possibly the "zone B" output would meet my needs but I can't be absolutely sure that it is line level or if volume control is applied to that output as well.

Joe.......The MX150 Zone B RCA outputs can be used to feed a fixed level signal to your Revox reel to reel. You will have to go into the Zone 2 Setup to make the settings for Fixed output, and Fixed output Level. Once that is done Zone B output will be your tape source.

Hi Dan. Sadly I think the MX-150 got the better of me. I was able to find out how to set the max level of zone B to 99% but wasn't able to figure out how to set it to "fixed". I'll keep digging......

BlueSky........You can always give Chuck Hinton a call at McIntosh. He should be able to guide you through the Setup process for Zone B.

Dan, I stumbled into the setup menu option it set the output to fixed.

BlueSky.......That should do it for you. It's not exactly the perfect tape monitor loop but it is a decent work-around.
