Default I had to destroy Nordost Halo Plug

As I noticed something was loose at male side of Valhalla2 PC. I checked and found out that all the
black plastic parts were broken. They were brittle
By heat I think. All broken black parts in the pictures
Were self destructed, not me.

I had a warranty card, but I didn’t register it. Once I saw
The quality of this so call Halo plug, I think I will upgrade it with Furutech FI46 Gold Plated plugs. I think gold plated one will retain original sound closer to the rodium plated one.

Problem is the carbon looked body of Halo plug seemed to be glued. I think I have to demolish it.

Interestingly that on the IEC side, the black plastics were
Intact. And silver body can be removed easily. Only the male side that it sticked.

This is genuine cord.

Even though you didn't register the warranty I'd suggest that you contact your Nordost dealer about this issue. As long as it's an authentic product purchased through its designated distribution the plug may be covered under warranty depending upon what is determined to be the cause of failure. You'd have nothing to lose by trying except some time, and if you could get it repaired by the factory the cable would retain more of its potential resale value.

This is typical of damage caused by cryogenic treatment
Cryogenic treatment is beneficial to metal wire and contacts but weakens many plastic compounds and caused polycarbonates to become brittle. This is just some of the reasons we do not recommend cryogenic treatment.

But it had its own issue tooIMG_9460.jpg
But it has been taken care of.

Oh I didn’t know Nordost was cryo treated. Thanks.

No intention to discredit, but we share user experiences here right. I am in hot climate, listening room can reach 90 degree F When A/C off.

I understand that std. aftermarket connectors many not fit huge copper
Easily or even impossible. Wattgate is the easiest due to wide opening, any Japanese ones were a nightmare due to very restricted opening by screw.IMG_9434.JPG . I didnt have any broken plastic from Wattgate and Furutech or Oyaide though.

The photo of SR connector did not fail due to the plastics cracking or breaking. The metal tube and the plastic end piece simply were not sufficiently glued together. And as you stated we have a lifetime warranty on our power products and took care of the issue.

RE: Connectors
All three of the connectors you mentioned are excellent and should perform well.

The other issue that could crack or break the connector can be caused by over tightening the strain relief screw, especially when using large diameter cable. So, be careful with that when you replace the connector.

Thanks for posting this. I have not experienced anything like this, and my room around the equipment can get warm into the low 90’s.

Now this may be part of a reason these cables are not UL recognized and branded.

Personally looking at that plug I would never have thought that was Nordost. Looks like a DIY plastic plug.
