I like driving. Always have. It will be an ice cold day in hell before I ever own an autonomous vehicle.

Don’t most people stop when someone walks in front of their car now? Or do you run some one over because they look suspicious? I don’t see this as a change for the worse, since I’m also guessing in the not-too-distant future, autonomous cars will have all sorts of security features like facial recognition, intrusion alarms when you’re in the car, etc., which may actually make carjacking more difficult.

I’m with you part of the way Dan. I love to drive and won’t give it up easily, but I’m also a realist: we live 30 miles from the nearest services, grocery store, doctors office, etc., and if an autonomous car will help us stay in our home into old age when we can no longer drive, I’ll gladly adapt. “Siri, take me to my doctors appointment and then stop for our grocery order.”

Um, well... if someone walks in front of my car and it’s a sketchy situation, I will go around it or back up or do something to avoid the threat.

The "actor" could never be certain how a human driver would react - whether by an act of commission or omission.

With an ADV, he more or less would.

I’m for it as long as ALL cars on the road are self-driving. Once you get the human element into the mix is when sh*t happens.
