No matter how good he is with software, if the SP3 doesn't have DSD capable hardware there is nothing he can do. There may also be licensing fees to be paid to Sony for every unit built by Bryston.

Anyway the answer is to simply have the Blu-ray player or SACD player with HDMI output the SACD as PCM 88k 24-bit (or 176k 16-bit if a Sony) and enjoy the excellent sound and full digital signal processing ability (bass management) of the SP3.

James Is there going to be a charge for that upgrade and if so how much would be the charge? Also Are you considering HDMI 2.0 upgrades for the SP3 in the future.

Hi,

It is a module so I am assuming around $200. No plans on changing the HDMI at this point but it is a modular board so changes can be made in the future.

Just few questions before I pull the trigger for bryston sp3.
Will there be any improvement with sound quality if I replace my anthem MRX 700 as HT processor I am listening to more 2 ch with my Modded oppo 95 analogue section fully modified by Dan from Modwright.
I find sound is better with analogue cable connected to anthem mrX 700 than HDMI connection .
Am I correct in saying that the main quality of my system is coming from modded analogue section of oppo and. if I feed this signal to bryston sp3 it would not make much difference and sound pretty much like anthem.
Can my systemm sound better if I use Hdmi to bryston using bryston sp3 Dac?
I have a feel that since I have a modded oppo so processor might not make much difference.
I may be absolutely wrong.!

I have the same Oppo that you do. I listen to the analog output of the Oppo. That should sound better than using HDMI. However, as a multichannel processor the SP3 will likely be superior to your Anthem.

As I am not much movie person and got very small rear speakers.
So if its not going to be much improvement in 2 ch listening then I might not make a move .
As its not cheap!
Thanks for your prompt response.

Hi

If you use the Analog Bypass then the signal is processed in anaolg only through fully discrete Class A circuits (no IC's).

Thanks James,

Since I asked my last question I have been reading about how preamp and processors work.
I don't know if you read in my previous post about my objective of improving the sound of 2 channel listening with the source of modded oppo 95 by Dan from ModWright .My current Pre processor is Anthem avr 700 and I find if I connect my oppo 95 with analogue cables to Anthem it sound better as compared to HDMI connection.
I was thinking of replacing anthem with Bryston but if analogue signal from oppo is NOT going to be processed by Anthem or Bryston as its a pass through so there is No quality/character can be added to the sound.
So limiting factor to quality of sound is source(oppo) which is already giving analogue and not the processor .
Am I making sense or missing something.
I must admit I am passionate about music but not much experience or knowledge .
Please advise.
