Any updates to this topic? I have a W4S DAC2 and have been wondering about the upgrade and if it really is worth it or not.

The DSDSE upgrade now includes a Femto Clock. Nice improvement to the DAC2.

A lot of people are abandoning their converter boxes after this upgrade.

I recently purchased a new DAC-2 DSDse and love it.

Enjoyed your DAC-2 DSD se review Pete. I have a early version W4S DAC-2 (2011), and don't plan on upgrading to the DSD version (I'm happy in my PCM world, and I don't use USB in my main system). It has been a great unit. One small beef is the remote control code is the same as my STI-500 integrated amp. Maybe the newer firmware has fixed that.

I am seriously considering the femto clock upgrade which is $275. Curious to find out if the femto clock upgrade applies to all inputs, including I-2-s and AES/EBU. Has anyone made that jump?

Thank you.

Yes indeed. The Femto clock applies to all inputs.

Thanks,
Tony @ W4S

I did the femto upgrade. W4S had it turned around in no time. It was out of commission for exactly a week, and that included a weekend and one day shipping in both directions. The upgrade process was easy. Absolutely awesome service. Been listening to it all day - I'm very happy having my great DAC back.

I wish the DAC 2 was still supported for Mac. So unfortunate it was abandoned.

Is this a fact or have they not released the most current drivers? Or is an updated driver actually needed for the most current IOS version?

I have a DAC-1 LE, with the Femto clock. Very similar to the current DAC-2 DSD... it does not have the pre-amp functions, just DAC. It is an amazing DAC and highly recommended! Therefore I highly recommend adding DSD and Femto clock to an older DAC-2.

Even though I do not use an Apple, I just researched on their website. They have Mac OS Yosemite divers available for download.

They also have discussions about new new OS.
"We are aware of the incompatibility of the latest Apple OS (El Capitan) and our DAC-2 (not DAC-2 DSD or DSDse, which are driverless for Mac). There is a known and documented issue with the new OS and its incompatibility for many USB audio devices, including DACs. Hopefully, Apple will address this soon. Until then, we are a bit at their mercy."

Therefore DSD and DSDse appear to work fine, only older DAC-2 appear to have an issue. Updating should work fine I would think. And typical of Apple... but I won't get into that here...
