Well took 3 Amps for it to be right since June 2018. (1 MC452, 1 MC462 and the third🤞 so far good)

What were the issues and where did you buy them? Did you have to deal with McIntosh directly or did your dealer?

What is going on with McIntosh????

Yes, all 3 brand new in box from authorized McIntosh Dealer. I am original first owner purchaser for first MC452 in June. The MC452 was replaced with new in box MC462 through dealer from McIntosh. After one month of great use the MC462 died, one day would not power on. It was replaced under warranty with another new MC462, which so far is performing. My dealer that I have been purchasing from since the early 90’s is exceptional. Am pleased that McIntosh has also been supportive and quick to respond, but it does really raise the question, what is going on. Last edited by ps7256; 11-17-2018 at 11:32 AM. |

Was there a reason? Do you have all the McIntosh you need? Are you just on a journey trying out other gear now? Obviously you have a lot of premium McIntosh already so the need to replace them is less.

The issues with MC452, blemishes and scuffs on the black satin finish on the autoformers, left handle scuffed on side, intermittent crackling and right heat sink rattling. Issues with second piece, the first MC462 after one month power on intermittently, connected via 3.5 mini jack cable 12v trigger to C47 even though all settings were correct. Eventually would not power on any time within a 72 hour test period. Dealer indicated it may have been an issue with protection circuit. Another AA member also had his MC462 arrive dead out of box in September, no power. Dealer also speculated that it may have been a bad batch of parts. |

Thanks for sharing everyone. I understand that every manufacturer will have problems. To me it’s how that it’s handled that matters. Also thanks for sharing reasons or details, it really paints a picture. Vague comments or reasons can allow ones mind to run wild.

My MA8000 came out of the box in perfect shape and performed flawlessly until stray voltage got into the USB port from my HP server, which was inadequately protected. The result was the USB port on the HP was blown and the Mac would no longer power on.
Mac CS was very quick to respond to my email and at first thought the amp had bricked itself. They emailed me de-bricking instructions which didn't work. Into the trunk of my car it went and off to the shop for examination. After applying various voltages to different power supplies, the Mac just turned on again. The shop was never able to explain why. At this point we didn't know the USB port was fried. Once that problem was found, Mac was very quick (2 days) to turnaround a new board and, viola, the unit was fixed. So my experience is this: I had a problem that had nothing to do with Mac's build quality and the unit was out of warranty, so I paid the bill. Mac was there in a prompt manner for me at every turn and provided the repair shop the necessary replacement board in very quick fashion. The unit is up and running again and performing flawlessly again. All-in-all, I have zero complaints with this product. I'm sorry to read that some of our members have had disappointing experiences with new Mac products. From my vantage point the issue isn't so much that a bad product or two manages to get out the door (which really shouldn't happen), but rather, that warranty has been honored in full without complaint or delay. In my mind that's the true measure of the company.
