Default Oppo BDP-95 set up question

I only have 2 speakers, so I will have to down mix multi-channel audio to stereo. Do I select "LT/RT" or "Stereo" in the Down Mix Mode?

Tommy.......The Oppo BDP-95 has a full range stereo signal at the left and right two channel outputs no matter what the setup is in the multi-channel menu. The two channel output has it's own ESS 32Bit DAC dedicated just to the stereo output. Just plug in and go, no set up required.

Tommy - you want it to be set as Stereo. LT/RT assumes you will be using the dedicated stereo outputs as part of a 5.1/7.1 system.

Jeff.......The Oppo BDP-95 Owner's Manual says this about the dedicated two channel stereo ouputs, both RCA and balanced: The STEREO AUDIO OUT terminals automatically down-mix the multi-channel audio source into the stereo signals. However, STEREO AUDIO OUT will NOT be affected by the "down-mix" modes and other speaker settings in the Audio Processing or Setup Menu (described in the page 70).

The down-mix menu and its setting affect the 7.1 channel RCA outputs, not the dedicated stereo RCA or balanced outputs.

Dan - that used to be the case, but since the manual was written Oppo has done a firmware update that allows the assignment of the dedicated stereo outs to be the L/R in a multi-channel setup as well. This allows the utilization of the dedicated stereo DACs and outputs to improve the sound in a multichannel configuration. If you want to keep the downmix settings for the stereo outputs you need to not select the LT/RT.

Jeff.......Appreciate the update. The BDP-95 Owner's Manual does not offer that information. I just got off the telephone with Oppo technical service, and they confirmed what you said. The tech explained that their intent was to make available the balanced outputs for customers who wished to have the left and right front speakers in a multi-channel setup be fed with balanced interconnects.

Thanks for shedding light on a feature of the BDP-95 that I was not aware of.

I use this setting also but have discovered a bug or my 95 is faulty. If I make the LT/RT speakers distances different in "Speaker Configuration" than I am unable to get a good center image between both speakers. The main singers are always heavy right with no soundstage. I thought all you guys were nuts raving how great this Oppo is. The center image only returns when the speaker distances are the same.

Oppo really wasn't very helpful and just said they recommend both speakers distances be set to 12 feet. Has anybody else noticed this?
