I really enjoyed the book. As was mentioned earlier, the science was made to seem plausible, but that will probably not come out much in the movie.

Yes, quite the scientific read. Made me work my inner gray matter and practice some long lost skills. Started it last Wed. & finished on Sunday.

Saw it on the weekend. I enjoyed it!
The movie did not go into all aspects that were in the book.

Enjoyed the movie a lot...nice 3D...nice pace...although "the explain everything" plot device is a bit contrived at some points. Showcases the astounding craftmanship* of Ridley Scott...but lacks the spark of Bladerunner and Alien. Except for the Martian storm, which could not happen with the force depicted and the earthlike gravity (the surface gravity on Mars is only 38% the gravity on Earth) there are no major plotholes and the science is pretty sound (except for the rotation speed of the Hermes). The biggest accomplishment of "The Martian" is that it transports you to Mars and shows how it could be. As a 50 year old, the chances of witnessing an actual Mission to Mars are diminishing every year...so I'm grateful for this movie.
It reminded me of a lower budget, but very enjoyable pseudo documentary that conveys the same sense of "wonder". *when we left the theater we wondered what the h*ll had happened with Prometheus because He is a True Master of Cinema...how could Prometheus be such a Cluster...k Last edited by JemHadar; 11-03-2017 at 01:34 PM. |
