Default Speakers cables for Emotiva amps

Can anybody advise which speakers' cables can be used with Emotiva amps?

Emotiva XPA-1L

and

Emotiva XPA-100 mono block

Speakers - Anthony Gallo Acoustics model Reference 3.5.

any help will be appreciable.

Based on what I read on other forums by Emotiva owners regarding cables, it would seem Home Depot 12 gauge is sufficient. Personally, I always wondered if more performance could be coaxed out of Emo amps with better cables. However, so far the mindset of Emo owners I have seen seems to be cables don't matter. It's all hoodoo voodoo.

I run a full set of Emotiva amps (2 XPA-1's, 3 UPA-1's & a UPA-200) along with an XDA-1 DAC.

I did a test with four cable types:

1. Standard clear jacketed GLS 12 gauge wire,

2. Paul Speltz's Anti Cables,

3. AudioQuest Rocket 33, and

4. Emotiva's X-Series.

Item 1 was put on the shelf. Item 2 was returned, as was Item 3. I kept Item 4 and they feed my Vienna Acoustic speakers (R, L & Center).

Item 1 did nothing for me.

Item 2 sounded better than standard 12 gauge.

Item 3 didn't do much better than Item 2 and they were a LOT more expensive than items 2 & 4.

Item 4 provided me the best sound of all those items in the test.

I know I can spend a LOT more money on cables but Emotiva X-Series just does the job at a very reasonable price.

As BlueFox stated anything from zip wire and up. Fact is this applies to any and all from a mere it will function standpoint. As like anything else YMWV.

When I was using an Emotiva MPS-1 amp for my two channel rig, I went from generic 12 guage OCC copper to Tributaries OCC copper and noticed an improvement, albeit a small one. When I changed amps the improvement was dramatic.

My conclusion is that better cables will help a little, just not enough. YMMV

So long as you use a speaker cable which is of sufficient gauge to not restrict current demands and it has a low enough resistance so as to not significantly reduce the damping factor of your Emotiva amp then you should be good to go from your amp's perspective.

Of much greater importance is how the chosen speaker cable affects your speakers; particularly how the resistive, capacitive and inductive aspects of the speaker cable interact with your speaker's passive crossover ..... and possibly alter your speakers frequency response in the process. Note that many cable manufactures deliberately alter RCL elements to get their cables to make speakers sound different (than other cables) so you need to do some due diligence on this.

Unfortunately, since speaker designs are so different, various cable designs will interact with each one differently making it next to impossible to say that any particular cable is "better" than another. About the only thing we can deduce from such a situation is that cable X sounds different than cable Y when connected to your amp and speaker and in your room. This is the reason why we get so much argument about the qualities and performance of so many different cables in this hobby. Everyone is chasing unknown variables which make valid comparison impossible.

You can, however, look for cables which do their best to disappear from the sonic equation. Presuming they are properly assembled, such cables will have low capacitance and inductance specs and will be properly gauged (say 10 gauge) to keep resistance vvery low.
