Charles.......$150.00 per guy is ridiculous. Who the heck are they sending, a couple attorneys?

If it was attorneys it would be $150 an hour!

That is the going rate for HT installations, at least around here. $150 per man per hour, 1 hour minimum. When the 501s were delivered, the two guys brought them in (second floor walk-up), unboxed them and set them in place, and verified they were working after they were connected. And since I wanted my money's worth, they hung around a bit afterward while I played a few selections. From the ringing of my bell until the 501s were in place was only thirty minutes.

Since I have no help, it might cost that again if they ever need to go off for repair. It's one reason I thought about selling off the 501s and getting something more physically manageable, probably Odyssey Stratos monos.

Greetings to all from Singapore,

I'm currently on HT (all satellite speakers) and do not have any full size speakers yet. But I come across a very nice pair of MC501 which in very good condition to near mint condition.

It would take me quite a while to set up a complete stereo system, so should I buy these and keep it? I was very impressed by the handles I saw in this forum and where can I get them if I were to buy these the monos? Thanks ahead.

Bernard

I love my mc501s! They are among the best amps I have ever had, bested in sound only by the mighty ARC 601s, which kept breaking down and used more than 40 friggin' tubes! They were hot as space heaters! The mc501s give me enough of what the huge ARC 601s did that I don't even miss them. Moreover, I never worry if the Mcintosh amps are going to work properly when I turn them on and no tubes to bias and replace. If anyone is interested, I just changed power fuses to Synergistic Research Red in my mc501s and I like them a lot after they broke in a bit. Smoother highs and more controlled fast bass. The Hi Fi Tuning black fuses made a big difference too but the Synergistics were better in my system. I'm also using Cardas Golden Reference power cables to good effect.

Hollandwg.......The McIntosh MC501 power amplifiers are true classics. I don't know anyone who has owned them, including myself, who have anything but praise for their performance and reliability. There is a lot to be said for the confidence of knowing your system is always ready to deliver its best sound every time you press the power button.

Ditto...I've owned mine for 8 years now, and there's been nothing but great performance with nary a hiccup or issue of any kind. And oh yes, they run very cool, only mildly warm after a workout. Beautiful amps indeed.
