My Shunyata Hydra 8 is here!

Grats on your Hydra 8 Puma!

For those interested the 3rd gen series the Hydra Alpha 2,4,6 is the new kid on the block below the reference series Triton, Talos, Cyclops. It does not have the Noise isolation compound placed on the incoming/outgoing AC but it has much more advanced filters between components than even the V-Ray MK II. Price has gone up though compared to the old 2,4,6 hydras.

I started out with two hydra 6 then traded up one to the hydra 8 and now went all in for the Triton. I'm very impressed with what Shunyata have achieved, the noise just dropped like a rock with the Triton.

This is an excellent point when considering Power Conditioning and Power Cables. The difference when you install is very nice, but after listening for a week or two, then remove and put back the stock items - this is when you really appreciate what these two things can do in a rig.

And I found with conditioners, the money you spend, really shows up in the results. I had tried many of the cheaper conditioners, but always came back to Shunyata and Running Springs.

I have to remember to drop a line to Shunyata to see if they are providing upgrades to the new Alpha from stock Hydra's.

Congrats on the Hydra 8 PC, Shunyata is definitely addictive stuff... I've been trying to work out a pathway forward with power here for a while and recently trialled just Shunyata PCs without a conditioner. While the improvement over stock was wild this was nothing compared with the comparative flatness and deep disappointment I experienced after returning the Shunyata cables back to the dealer... haven't missed anything quite so bad in my system before.

So have put in an initial order including a Zitron Cobra PC... also got a run out deal on some of the existing gear including a Hydra 2 which will do me till I can trial the new conditioners and maybe a Python Zitron as well... looking forward to your thoughts on the Hydra 8 and how it compares... with you 100% on the value and effect of the Shunyata gear.

dtb300...can you please come back to us and let us know what Shunyata says? I have the Hydra 8 and if there is an upgrade path to the new Alpha version, I would be interested to know. There is a V-Ray MkII locally that I can get for a decent price but if the Alpha upgrade is even a better sonic upgrade than I will definitely consider that. Thx again.

Crion...so your sense is that upgrading a Hydra 8 to the current Alpha model would be better than a V-Ray mkII??

Well ideally you would go to the Talos for both the 3:rd gen Hydra filters AND the noise isolation compound. But yes I would believe the new filtering between components in Hydra Alpha series to be more effectice that it could pull ahead of the old reference V-Ray Mk2.

Now don't take my word for it, but I have to say that the Triton itself is several times quiter than my old Hydra8 and I didn't go for the mk2 upgrade.
