Indeed.......... you never know when to expect the Spanish Inquisition.

To stay on topic, am sure the SP3 is a great piece of gear.

Great thread, a lot of info here about the SP3. It's excellent to see James' participation. I have seen many discussions about why room correction was not included and James explained this very well. Something I haven't seen discussed unless I somehow happened to miss it was the lack of Dolby Pro Logic IIz and dts Neo:X. Since the SP3 is a new platform not having either of those stands out to me.

James would you mind commenting on why both formats were not licensed in the SP3? I see there are 2 Aux outputs so I suppose they could be put into use to implement Dolby ProLogic IIz via a software update but that still leaves the platform incapable of dts Neo:X in it's full implementation. It would have been comforting to see 5 (or 7) Aux outputs meaning 4 for Neo:X and 3 additional sub outs to allow for 4 subs in total but since two sub outs seems to be the norm these days 5 Aux outs would work as well.

Thanks

Hi - yes given that the source material is mostly available in discrete 5.1 and 7.1 material some of the 2 channel surround modes were not a priority.

Thanks James. I assume then that also applies to expanding the discrete surround material because Neo:X and PLIIz can be applied to 5.1 and 7.1 sources, they are not limited to 2 channel sources?

Correct - the emphasis was on getting the new Dolby HD and DTS Master uncompressed 5.1 and 7.1 formats up and running.

Firefox browser incompatibility issues

Recent versions of Firefox (2012 and 2013) seem to result in corrupted SP3.bin file uploaded to SP3 unit. This causes the programming to fail reverting the unit back to the factory backup
firmware.

It is recommended to use Chrome, Safari or Internet Explorer. If the unit upgrade fails due to the above mentioned reason, it is recommended to repeat the procedure using other browser.
If the original URL address cannot be accessed, then use the following direct link, which will always work even if all files were corrupted:

http://xx.xx.xx.xx/upload where xx.xx.xx.xx are the currently used SP3 address digits displayed on the front panel logo screen when the left arrow key is pressed. Example: 169.254.1.1
