Rediscovering the Linn Keilidhs....
I'm rediscovering the incredible strengths of my old Linn Keilidh speakers.
Yesterday, I decided to connect them to the Rega Osiris integrated amp and see what happens. The Osiris drove my Tannoy Autograph Mini very well and produced an incredible bass on my EB1i. Remembering what the Keilidhs are able of when it comes to bass, I could not resist to connect them to the Osiris. BINGO ! They sound like never before and I remember this sound when I was younger, listening at them actively tri amplified by 3 Linn Klouts. At this time, I had no money, and using them active like that was a no no for me but that clearly showed me their potential. I also remembered by Linn dealer telling me that the Linn Keilidhs need high quality amps to express their immense potential and although they sound ok with a little good amp, they sound high end with an high end amp. He told me at this time that a pair of MC500 Mcs in passive could drive them even better than the 3 Klouts in active. That is the first time I connect them with a really high end amp and the sound is just incredible. The bass is clear, tight, deep and seems to go very low. The Mids are warm and clean as I love them and the treble is sweet as honey and tube amps. A perfect perfect wedding ! At this time, Linn was making incredible products at incredible prices. I wish they could have keep this way of doing. I know that I could sell many of my components. But I'm sure of only one thing. I WILL NEVER SELL MY KEILIDHS. A second hand pair can be found for around 3 to 400 euros and they sound like a 5k euros speaker to me, when driven by a very good amp !
