Default Audiophile Network Cables..... REALLY...REALLY!

When I first heard about this scam....errr concept it immediately failed the giggle test! What is the giggle test you say? If I can pause to think about your idea without thinking that you're a stand-up comic we can talk!!!

This article went through a helluva long arduous testing procedure to prove/disprove a point about "audiophile network cables". I've said it a scam when first posted here, my point was that "network cables carry data not sound". Think about it in this manor please. My driver can only deliver the material to your site " ie network cable". You'll have to hire a builder to assemble the final product "ie pre-amps, amps, speakers, interconnects, and DAC's".

Please read for your pleasure and KEEP your money in the wallet!!!

The audiophile

I hear crickets...

You have offended the snooty audiophile and his "Cat-7" cable!

I am not necessarily a believer in ultra expensive Ethernet cables, although I do believe there's value in spending extra for a well-made cable with quality connectors - but I am a believer in scientific methodology, and this ain't it. A listening test conducted in a large, open, probably reverberant hall with "a few hundred people" coughing and scraping their chairs, using open-backed headphones, and the cheap DAC and amp built into a Dell laptop running Windows Media Player that kept hanging up? I'm surprised they could tell what song they were listening to. This test was as much pseudo-science as some of the claims it was intended to debunk. It's like asking someone to tell the difference between how a Porsche and a Chevy handle by testing them at 10 mph on a washboard dirt road.

I guess for me its the finger nails across the chalk board topic! Trying to prove that unicorns do REALLY exist! Also that all humans are TOO deaf to hear the differences in his cables design. So I rant.... and rant, but at-least others share my view in this lunacy in this matter. Thanks -E- I feel so much better now. How much for this office visit!

Ken

Ken, ok, I'll play. Let's start with some common assumptions:

1) There is a measurable difference between Cat 5, Cat 6 and Cat 7 cables;

2) That difference is primarily the result of close (or not) tolerances at the connectors;

3) DACs do NOT read 1's and 0's, but rather voltage variances triggered by a scan of 1's and 0's in a given time frame.

Are we in agreement so far?

An Ethernet cable carries an analog signal that is converted to digital after being received. Since jitter can easily be introduced by the cable, it is possible some gear could be susceptible to that jitter.
