what have you seen Guardsman and other products do. Looks like there are Guardsman products that do not leave a residue or sheen, more of a wood cleaner/conditioner.

I would believe only using a damp cloth and buffing would dry the wood out eventually.

I use only of REALLY necessary the polish available from B&W for the PianoBlack models.

Natural woods are more susceptible to drying out and need conditioning in which case the Guardsman would be my first choice as well! but we're talking high gloss black lacquer ( or cherry) in this case and the only real enemy being oily smearing (even from your fingers) to obscure the finish in which case a very very damp cloth is all one needs to clean it up! The alternative is the build up of solvents that with the addition of climate will in my opinion eat away at the finish faster but as with all things nothing was meant to last for ever
