Default Best Components for a JBL Metregon

Hello All!

I recently acquired a 1963 C45 JBL Metregon ... It is currently loaded with the "201" system composed of the following:

Driver: 175
Woofer: 130A
Crossover: N1200
Horn: H5040

I have been thinking about upgrading to the 205 system or possibly the 282 system. I actually have an extra set of JBL 375 signature drivers hanging around but would still need to find a pair of 150-4C woofers and N400 crossovers.

Does anyone have experience with the different components the Metregon system was loaded with over the years? I know the 282 system was more commonly found in the Paragons.

Ryan.......This is the first time I have seen or heard about the C45 JBL Metregon. Interesting design for sure. Hopefully one of our JBL fans will be able to offer some help.

That McIntosh MA230 looks nice, too.

Killer Metregon! I don't know much about them, other than they are cool as heck. If it 's working well, I would enjoy it as is.

The JBL Metregon is an extremely intriguing design. There are two mid range horns loaded inside the cabinet that fire directly at the convex rounded surface on the front. The concept is that the sound reflects off the surface and creates a uniformly distributed mid and high frequency throughout the room.

It is basically a smaller / more manageable version of the Paragon.

Ryan.......I am familiar with the JBL Paragon. I have heard a couple of them and was never impressed. I did not know about the Metregon, though.

You might also want to consider the S8 system, with uses the LE15A, LX5, and 375. Also an 075 and N7000 can be added. This is the same system most of the Paragons use, and was also available on the Metregon.
