Scala V2 or Sasha 2's
Looking for a change. Have had Dynaudio C4S' for a number of years and want a change. I can get a great deal on Scala V2's with the new version coming out in September. I can also get a good deal on Sasha 2's. Plan on driving them with Krell Evolution One and Two's. Listening room is on the smaller 12' x 16' by 8' ceilings. Heavily treated with room treatment.

Nice problem to have. Just sold my 1008Be monitors with an eye to either the 1028Be or 1038Be. I'm partial to the "Focal sound", so I would likely lean towards the Scala speakers, though Sashas would also be nice. Its a toss-up on size. Does Wilson still use the Focal Be tweeter (I believe they do). Think I would have to listen to both a fair bit to make the choice. Decisions, decisions.

Yes, and they never used the beryllium one, that I'm aware of. It was a titanium one.

Obviously, I'm behind on Wilson technology. Have only been keeping up in passing since selling my CUBIIs.

Love my scala V2s, incredible speakers. Some people complain of the tweeters sounding hot/bright but I find them detailed yet supremely smooth. My amps are very neutral (boulder 1050) but I use a tubed linestage / phono (VAC phi beta) which may help smooth things out. My cables are hybrid silver / copper which might also further help to balance things -- I suspect pure silver could contribute to brightness. One nice thing about the focal is that you can easily adjust bass/treble with the jumpers, but I have not found that necessary and mine are set in the neutral position.
They are very musical, and a huge leap ahead of my prior alto utopias. The Bass is definitely improved on the V2 -- I have scala V1 as rear speakers. I can listen for hours without any fatigue, which was not true of the altos. I spent a very long time positioning mine. I ended up closer to the back walls than I thought I would (43" from tweeter). Imaging and soundstage is great out of the gate, but can be even further improved by experimenting with positioning and toe in. They reproduce my favorite albums effortlessly, sounding very musical and enjoyable. Female voice is sublime. I have a wide range of musical taste and find them very versatile, equally at home with classical, jazz, rock, world or electronica. acoustic live performances are rendered with amazing realism. Studio productions reveal details I did not know existed. Sorry, I cannot compare with Wilson which I have not heard in my system, but I can certainly vouch for the focals! Extremely happy and satisfied. |

Phunge; what size is your listening room? How far are you from the speakers?

The Sasha1's were a pretty good speaker, but those used the Focal tweeter.
I'd take the Scala in a heartbeat. Nearly impossible to beat Utopia midrange - and you can still tame the tweeter with the rear module.

The speakers are 107" apart, 130" from my listening sweet spot. |

The Sasha 1 used a Wilson tweeter based on the Focal inverted dome. Focal would tell you that was the case. The Sasha 2 uses an early version of the Wilson Convergent Synergy Tweeter. |
