I believe they are for PSE variants using the VR tubes as well. Wave some Benjamins at him and see if he'll build a PSE 45.......

Would it be possible for Dennis to build a PSE 45 SET in Triode configuration (PSET) rather than as a SEP (PSEP)? That would certainly eliminate the anemic output of the 45 SET and provide more scoops of the real thing (in my book anyway!).

I think the 45 is a triode tube.

Perhaps you were dreaming about how glorious paralleled 45s would sound.

CopperConn
I have the output transformers on it now, should be finished with it Monday.
This one's mine, I'm running Golden Voice 6CA7's (thanks Dennis), Psvane CV181, RCA 5Y3, and JAN 0A3's |

I don't know who is manufacturing these new Golden Voice tubes. Since they are from China, usually that means Shuguang, but perhaps it is some smaller company.
The thing I find interesting about how they advertise their 6CA7 tubes it that they claim they are pentode, which makes them nicer. Actually what that makes them is really an EL34. 6CA7 tubes are, by definition, beam tetrodes, this is what separates them from being an EL34, which are always pentodes. It gets confusing when these Chinese companies purposefully confuse tube labels. Their CV181s are not CV181s and now their 6CA7s are not 6CA7s. |

Actually, what I meant was if it was feasible to wire both tubes per channel as Triodes (evidently not with true Triode tubes). That way the mid-range magic would persist while getting the advantages of the PSE approach. Does that make any sense?

Has anyone tried the Ruby 6L6GCM-STR ?
Fairly inexpensive 6L6 tubes, made in China by Shuguang, usually sold for use in guitar amps. Supposedly has a thicker glass envelope and sturdier construction than their standard 6L6. An acquaintance of mine, who has been building tube amps for over 30 years and whose favorite tube is the 6L6, tells me that these are excellent. He uses them all the time in his builds, and in his own gear. Last edited by Bombadil; 04-10-2017 at 01:05 AM. |

The way my amp is wired is that the two 45 output tubes are just both fed off a split signal from the driver tube (6SN7) and then feed into the same tap of the OPT. Triode wired all the way, just in parallel....
