I have used a Ringmat version before. It does not work on every cd but on the ones it does it is definitely discernible and an improvement. In blind tests, the results categorically showed that it made a difference.

However, placing it on the PCB inside my Sooloos did not achieve nearly the same effect.

Can't exclude those little dealies which are hung from the ceiling and strategically placed all over the listening area. Those are the cats meow.

I think I used Clean Wave one time when I had PPP's. After using my distortion numbers jumped up to the 5%-7% range and I never used it again. Relationship, I have no idea.

Perhaps that's why they invented SACDs?

Also, are CD players designed to accept CDs with a mat on top of them???

Plus, that CD 'test tone' to improve and clean whatever; why don't they put that 'test tone' on all CDs at their beginning?

"Some" of the reasons for the crazy prices of a few high end CD players/transports are the costs associated with keeping extraneous light sources or reflections from impacting the reading of data. They may not use "mats" but the machining of the disc tray, the sealing of the unit and the material coating used to absorb light perform some of the same functions. I would guess the higher the quality of the transport the less effective a mat would function.

You should, because the first time I heard this mat was on a Burmester, and since this is for a top loader, and I could not afford a Burmester CD Player, I was inclined to buy a Rega CD Player, Apollo first then a Saturn, and on both players it works.

---Yeah, top loaders make more sense perhaps.
PS3 type loaders? ...Slots.

* Jim, I got you. ...But if the mat works, $100 ain't too bad at all; let's wait for Ivan's final verdict (in his Burmester CD player).
