I am resurrecting this thread from a year or so ago because I was so impressed by the way Grant (GrantS) explained in posts 8, 19 & 20 the necessity of fixing and addressing power issues first before moving onto speaker and interconnects (interconnects, IMO are the last in the chain or cabling to reap any benefit). Power is first and foremost. Get it right as he says and you've hit an infield triple.

Yeah, I know -- another cable thread -- but as I've mentioned previously, a Shunyata King Cobra (V1) made myself and several of my friends believers when listening to my Esoteric DV50S many years ago (and in turn, I'm sure it helped with the monthly rent at "young" Shunyata).

Best Sir,

Bob

I remember writing here back in the 2012 or 2013 time frame about the improvements a Shunyata Hydra 8 made to my system. It was significant; then I was able to upgrade to a Triton, and that brought a component-level improvement to the system overall. I can't overstate the importance these power distirbutors and cables bring to a system.

There is so much more music in QUIET...

I am once again resurrecting this thread from the past (since I am new and do not have topic-creation privileges).
I am in the market for a used Hydra model 8, and I've found one that is close by and at a reasonable price, but I am having a hard time determining if it's a mk1 or mk2 version. From what I've read online there were significant upgrades in the mk2, but when I search Google pictures for Hydras I keep coming up with all sorts of front- and backplates on both of the models with seemingly little consistensy. I've seen that the mk2 has a different serial number sometimes, but not in every picture?

Here is a picture of front and back, if someone could please enlighten me.
Would also greatly appreciate input regarding what changes were made to the mk2 and if someone has taken the step upgrading their mk1?

Masterlu thank you!
And is that enormous signature different setups of yours? That is seriously impressive if that's the case!
I emailed Shunyata support with a picture of the back plate and awaits their answer for now!

Having owned a Hydra 8 and later a Talos, save yourself some time and look for a used Talos.
