Three systems:

(1) Scala v2, driven by Accuphase c-2120 + p-4200
(2) Diablo Evo, driven by Accuphase e-480
(3) Diablo, driven by Octave v40se (currently on EL 34, but soon on KT 88)

Question: any idea what kind of (Japanese) tube power amplifier could be an alternative to the p-4200?
Or what (Japanese) integrated tube amp would do a fine job on the Scala v2?
Any experience?
Thanks for your help / advice !

Salut jesuisunutopiste, I'm not sure if you have already made some changes to your system?

With your Scalas 92dB you could give a try to the Air Tight push-pull amplifiers: the ATM-1S 2x36W (EL34 tubes), or if you can stretch the budget then the ATM-2 Plus 2x70W (KT88 or 6550 tubes) for a better grip. If you prefer the sound of direct heated triode then consider the ATM-300R, but you should make sure it can drive your Scalas since it produces only 2x9W (fyi my Audion 300B 2x8W amp drives my Sonus Faber Elipsas 92dB without any problem, but what works in my system might not work in yours, depends also on your room size and listening habits). Leben makes the CS-600 2x32/28W (6L6GC/EL34 tubes), excellent integrated amp but maybe not as refined as the Air Tight pieces.

Was driving my Focal1038be with a PA Audio BHK250-I have now switched that out for a MC452. Both combos have provided pleasurable listening experiences. The 452 is a tad more laid back, but with a larger, deeper soundstage, while the BHk250 was a bit more resolving, to my ears. I have thought about moving the focals for some JBls or Sonia Faber speakers.

Sopra2s now being commanded by an Accuphase E-650 and responding admirably. 30 Class A watts can and do boot the dBs.

I currently power my Sopra 2 with Jeff Rowland 201 Mono Amps + PC1 @ 385 Volts. I use a Hovland HP100MC Pre with Telefunken NOS Tubes and a Modwright PH 9 Phono. Sources include: dCS Bartok-Aurender N10, Nakamichi Dragon, and Roksan Xerses Turnable with SME IV & Soundsmith Paua MK II cartridge.

Nice system, I’m sure your Sopras must shine! Always liked the Hovland pre, it’s often successfully mated with SS power amps. Great sources too, enjoy!
