An other Rega P9 happy user !
I heard that the MC stage of the Shindo preamps are made for very low impedance carts. Did you try an Apheta on your P9 ?
I heard the Apheta on a P6 in the Paris show, and it was magical....

Thanks Jérôme. Yes, a VERY happy () P9 owner!

No, I have not tried the Apheta. When I bought the table I grabbed the Dynavector 17D3. I then had an EMT JSD6, which I loved, but was a little steep for my comfort level at the time. Earlier this year, though, I had a lead on the Koetsu - it was used. Price was well within my comfort zone - sub $2. All was well until June, when my 3 year old wanted to play with it and broke the stylus. So it was sent back to Koetsu in Japan for a rebuild. Nearly $2K later it's back and I have about 40 hours on it right now.

For me, I can't imagine much more than this cartridge. But that's not to say I wouldn't try the Apheta or the EMT (again). In fact, I wouldn't mind doing so...

But for now - I'm totally enjoying the music!

FWIW, I fully plan to offer a full review after about a month with these, but I will also try to offer some bits and pieces of my thoughts during the interim weeks. Oh, and yes, I will give in and join so I can post some proper pictures so you can really enjoy these beautiful primates.

But for now, here's a brief, interim update on the Orangutans. Simply put - I love these speakers. Granted, I'm not a audio dealer or a professional reviewer, so maybe my perspective is limited. But I do love music and I've never enjoyed my music more as I have during the past week. I'm sure a part of this experience is my existing equipment's deft handling of the music, too. But when you consider the only change from 10 days ago is the introduction of the Orangutans, then I hope you will understand how significant their role is, as the improvement is greater than ANY OTHER component that I've had in my system.

So what is it that I've picked up so far? I'd say the biggest surprise is just how much detail in my albums has been held back by my prior speakers. It's incredible. The reproduction of the detail that has been hidden was jaw dropping. I'm still marveling about aspects to various albums that I NEVER heard before. Perhaps the most startling experience came with the Blue Box Beatles albums. I've spun Revolver, Rubber Soul, and Sgt. Pepper several times and can say without hesitation that I've never heard nor experienced Beatles music like this before. There is one section on Revolver, where Paul is on Bass and there is layer of reverb and or feedback that occurs during the performance that just popped out when me and my friend (a fellow bassist) listened last weekend. It was incredible. The detail surrounding it had been lost, muddled, or otherwise veiled by the Zu's. But with the O's, well, it was natural, automatic, and obvious! Put another way, the O's allow you to hear greater detail that is otherwise lost in the playback, as other speakers fail to bring out.

PS My prior speakers included Meadowlark Kestrel Hot Rods and Zu Essence.

Nice description - I look forward to your continuing impressions of the O/96 after you had some more time to break them in.

Glad to hear the Orangutangs are working so well. I am very interested to hear them. They come out just as I purchased my pair of Devore Nines.

I saw these speakers in NYC at I'm Living Stereo. One of the prettiest wood finishes I've seen on a speaker.

Default A peak at the orangutan

Now that I finally became a member, I'm now able to add a few photos... The third is a shot from the top and you can see just how much this speaker reflects its surroundings. What you see in the photo is our ceiling... LOL

Separately, I'm still working on a review of these. They are pretty spectacular. And you'll note that they are currently several inches off of the marked spots. I'm still playing with multiple positions to find what I like.
