Pick up a used pair of Contour S3.4s. Usually can be had for $3K. There is also a black ash pair of Confidence C2s for sale if you look around for $6500. Those are amazing speakers.

There is a member here selling a pair of C2s in Black Ash for $6K in the marketplace forum (subscribe to access it). This is a super awesome deal if you can pick them up (he in Indianapolis and doesn't have the creates).

I have a pair of Contour S3.4s and love them. I am thinking about upgrading the tweeters in them to Esotar2.

The 5.4 are much harder to drive than the Focus line, that has recently been revamped.
I'd go for the big Focus instead of the 5.4...
And, of course, Dynaudio instead of Revel

There is a dealer near me who carries both. He even admits the Salon 2 over the Dynaudio. I heard both in his store and they are honestly, both amazing. The detail of the Dynaudios was incredible. The Salon 2's are much more neutral sounding and have a bit more in the bottom end, IMO. But honestly? I'd be very happy with either.

I'm surprised you found the Revels more neutral than the Dyns...they are reknown for being very neutral and that is my experience with them as well. Perhaps the Revels were on the cooler side of neutral. One of the reasons I like Dyns are their wonderful silk dome tweeters, which are very detailed but sweet and musical and will never drive you out of the room. You can listen to Dyns for hours on end.

All depends on what you want. I personally really prefer the looks of the Contour line to the Focus line, and the Contours have superior cabinet bracing/stiffness to the Focus line. Also, Contours are not all that hard to drive, I drive my S3.4s VERY effectively with a 70 Wpc tube amp.

Is that amp 70 WPC at 4 ohms? Just curious. The Naim amp I drive my S3.4s with is rated 80 WPC @ 8 but Naim told me it is 140 WPC @ 4. Nevertheless, I can crank large scale symphonic music and the amp just gets lukewarm to the touch.

Well the Salon 2's natural competitor would be the c4 or Sapphire, maybe even the Temptation.

I've heard the Revels too and for some reason I prefer their old line first gen line to their new one although the new line definitely sounds more refined.

Dean,
The amp is 70 WPC regardless of impedance, 8 or 4 ohms from what I understand...
