20 Hz is expensive-"but it only hurts for a little while!"
To me this was one of Dave Wilson's most famous quotes found on p.87 of Stereophile vol 13 no.6 June 1990. I recently discovered an album on HD Tracks titled "Music for Christmas" by organist James Welch recorded by Wilson Audio in 1979. What great bass it has! A lot of 20 Hz stuff that really pressurizes my room and the music is beautiful. Highly recommended for anyone with a good sub woofer that will do 20 Hz.

I disagree...slightly:
20Hz is easy. 20Hz @ flat response is the hard part. |

What a great album this is. I have never heard better bass. If you have a big subwoofer this is a must listen to album. Possibly the best organ music I own and over the years I have collected a lot of this genre of music. If you enjoy barely audible 20 Hz notes that really pressurize your room and ears (as I do) this will be you cup of tea.

Great recording largely made with a simple pair of AKG C-414 condenser in omni pattern. Many outstanding recordings made with the KISS method

Quote:
The female solos on this album are gorgeous-so well recorded. The heavy low bass organ notes (one right after another) are incredible. It is a live performance venue. Wilson should make more recordings. How did I miss this album for so many years? Last edited by Charles; 06-28-2016 at 09:57 AM. |

Music for Christmas is available from an on-line HD provider. Is this the recommended format or should one try to obtain an original somewhere?

If you want sub-20Hz organ music with a great chorus, you MUST buy Turtle Creek Chorale's PSALMS from Reference Recordings.
If your system is up to it, your house will shake. |

Deezer has 27 albums by Turtle Creek Chorale but not Psalms....

I have learned I cannot have any pictures hanging in my two channel room. They speak to me with the 20Hz and below music playing! Eery to have a picture talk to you.
Must remember to get some blu-tac tomorrow for all my picture frames.
