Well I swapped out my PS5 on my 452 amp for a WW silver from Ivan, I hated to admit it, but it is cleaner and faster, and that was before it was even broken in.
The PS cables are good, but they are not WW When time $$$$ permits more WW to come... |

The direction here seems solid but I will add my own. I am using WW power cables throughout and nothing else I have tried even came close!

Ok, I had bought PS Audio Jewels to use on my components; they are the entry-level model. Well-made is an understatement. And they have an excellent grip on the connectors. On my MCD301 I heard improvement over the stock cable; I thought things were a bit cleaner. I did have a pair of AC5s on my 501s very briefly, not long enough for them to break in (only 30 minutes). Their lack of flexibility was an issue so I sent them back. Those are 10AWG, the Jewels are 12AWG. I put WW Auroras on my 501s and though I don't particularly like the jacket color, they were more flexible and sounded good.
Out of curiosity I got a WW Stratus (also entry-level) for my TV, a Pioneer Elite PRO-111FD, mainly because the Jewel cord wouldn't fit, and the improvement over the stock cord was not small. More detail, more open, clearer. As a result, I decided to go for WW Stratus on the MCD301, and my general impression was a slight improvement in the sense of separation of musical elements over the Jewel. I have also replaced the Auroras with Electras, and there was improvement there. I notice more detail, and they seem a bit clearer. Most of my front end stuff has Stratus on it now. I do think the PS Audio cables make a better connection than the WWs, but without having done deliberate, real head-to-head comparisons I'll say only that WW has made improvement where I put it. Not huge, but noticeable. I am using Jewels on my video processor and my VPI SDS turntable controller. No complaints. Last edited by prepress; 10-31-2012 at 12:06 PM. |
