Yes, he told me he did hoard a lot of them.

I bought my C712 from Audio Classics and it was beautiful. It arrived in the factory double box, all fresh lights and running great. I could have saved $100 or so buying it somewhere else, but my pre arrived with out any worry or hassle. It was money well spent! Give them a call.

Only difference is the remote between the C712/C710. McIntosh Preamplifiers

The C712/710/15 are all relatively recent preamps. You would likely want to listen to whichever one you decide on prior to sending off to have "upgraded". If they don't work or need repair, suggest you also consider Terry DeWick. He uses Nichicon Muse caps, which, as the Black Gates have been out of production for a few years, are about as good as it gets for 'lytics' these days.

You can google both the Upgrade Company and Terry DeWick for their websites.
Thanks for the response. I found the upgrade company and have been in touch. I just purchased a c15 and it should be here shortly. I will do some listening before I decide to upgrade. Dave, thanks for your input as well.

I'm in NYC too. If you would like to do a comparison between the c15 and the upgraded c712, it would be interesting. We could report the results.

Its been a while since I posted here, and I have yet to send my preamp in for an upgrade, but I haev a question. Is the gain on the c15 high, or may my unit have a proble. I hooked it up in my system yesterday for the first time in quite a while, and noticed that I could not turn the volume up much past 9 o'clock before it getting extremely loud. Any thoughts?

markjrho- I have a C15 that I run with an MC-252 fed by a Schiit Gungnir DAC. I can get the volume to 12 o'clock for loud listening and my system sings. 9 o'clock is a good everyday volume, not too hot in my experience, but I imagine the balance with the rest of your gear may be the key to what you are hearing.

PS- If/when you get your C15 updated I'd love to read your report.

Thanks for the response, U.S. Blues. I believe you're right, but we shall never know exactly what the situation was because as of last night, the c15 found another home.

I have decided to try tubes for my beloved NOLA Viper iia's. Ever since I've been told that these speakers really sing with tubes, that's all I have been thinking about and decided to pull the trigger. So, I have sold almost all of my SS amplification to fund the purchase of some good used tube gear. I hope things work out well - I liked the gear that I sold!

Does anyone have a schematic of the C712? I have one that I need to troubleshoot. The only relay in the unit clicks with Power On, but nothing else happens. Please help. - John
