Cheated? Happens all the time...you buy gear and they come out with something better. Don't take it personally

I suppose the price will be the same that D02X.
But 22'4 DSD option and 8xAKM 4497.
I don't understand that situation.

There were two months between D02X and K1 releases.
They had that something better (AKM4497)

Hey Nacho,
I'm guessing that Esoteric needed to do something with all SACD drives on hand after deciding not to let other manufacturers use them. Digital moves too fast to get discouraged about changing technology and you still have an awesome dac. There are some companies that have modular designs that are built for future upgrades but the entry level prices are still really expensive. Some are able to use ethernet to stream and skip using USB which some don't like. Check out MSB

HAHAHA I get what Nacho is saying, but everyone gets hit with that. New product releases are always held close to the vest. I remember asking ARC's Dave Gordon about the future of the Ref5 and he didn't tell me about the Ref6...which came out the next week!!!

I guess with cars, it's a little more predictable. you know that every year some new features and refinements will occur, and every 3-5 years you'll get a whole new redesign (each mfg is a bit different).

Esoteric sure has expanded their products aggresively in the last 2 years.

I passed on the D02x and the K1 was asking way above it's value, especially for the many owners of k01, k01x.

A move to the N01, hmmmm .... i should have gotten something like an msb or dcs gear, which cost double.

Analysing acquiring the N01, futher thinking, it's actually a brilliant marketing move, now i get a streamer, hook up my k01x to it and esentially get a k1 with a bonus, a good deal and keeps me up to date, lovin' it.

I don't like the idea of trading my K01x for half or even less, it's still a fantastic unit.

I will wait to see if it is fully MQA complaint, i do not believe it will be as esoteric are not listed in the MQA as a manufacturer partner.

By taking a non MQA compliant dac section to the N01, it will be left for the N-01X and that's what i will really want

I'm talking about the new DAC D02X.
It replace the old D02 that was 4 years on the market. On that time only was release the KX series, inferior line, and Grandioso D1, reference line.
And the AKM4497 is available since may/16.
The ARC Ref 5 has a lot of years.
The equivalent example would be that you would bought a Ref6 when it was released and they would launched a better pre two months later on the same line.
If Esoteric were modular as MSB and others you would have the chance to upgrade it but it doesn't the case.
Anyway, Wadax is on my radar after my Server purchase and i'll be safe that i won't be on this situation again.
The DAC is good? yes, Esoteric is falling on production with nonsense? Yes.
Are there better options? Yes.
Just my opinion and experience.
I was expecting to own a reference DAC for years until next Esoteric development.

What an inappropriate answer.
Ferrari has launched the 812 model this year.
What do you think if you was an owner and now they would launch the 812 mkii?

The Wadax Atlantis sure looks appealing, unit i can hear and get an idea of how much better it is will be interesting, but costs a lot.

I dcan't understand why esoteric used the 4490 in the D01 and D02x, which on AKM web is sonically inferior in SQ to the 4495 seq and 4497. Was it purely for the higher DSD rates supported?

Curious what ELDC output stage does for soynd quality or is it more for driving capability for a wider range of preamps.

I am absolutely happy withe sound of my k01x.

Is the D02x not up to yourvexpectations, i am guessng investing in better cables and improving synergy will be more important and bring bring more improvements than just the upgrading of esoteric model, i may be wrong.
