TAD CR-1's in a Small Room
When you were young were you ever passionately in love with a girl but the maintenance required to sustain the relationship eventually wore you down so that the reasons you loved her no longer mattered? That's where I am at with my Raidho D-3's. I love the ribbon tweeter and how it presents detail. If I move my listening position just a tad or the speakers even a tiny bit, everything goes out of whack and I find myself chasing the bass, or image or soundstage around the room again. Despite what I love about them, they have to go.
I have a relatively small room - 14 feet wide, 25 feet long and 10 feet high. I consulted with Ivan who made a great recommendation to consider the TAD CR-1's. Anyone have any experience with them in a room about the size of mine? You can see from my signature the gear they would be paired with. I don't see a problem in matching. The only thing I can think of that might be an issue is that the pigtail on the TA Opus speaker cable may not be long enough to reach the binding posts with the speaker on their stands. Cincy

Eric.......Perhaps a pair of TAD R1's.
Or perhaps the Wilson Alexia. By all accounts the Alexia and the D'Agostino Momentum monoblocks are a wonderful combination.

I'd prefer the TAD CR-1s to their larger brothers.
Your room is not that big, the R1s might really overpower it. I heard the CR-1s in a small hotel room during a show. They were absolutely great and the best of show for me.

I really need something compact because of the room size. Eric

I also think the CR1's will be fantastic in your room.
You might also want to consider YG Acoustics Hailey. The sealed designed could work very well in your room. hailey_1.jpg Last edited by Douglas; 05-30-2016 at 12:09 PM. |

I have them in exactly that same size room (maybe one foot difference) and they are fantastic. I considered the big brothers, but having the CR-1s is just right for the room. AND, they have the widest sweet spot you can imagine - I sometimes just walk around to amaze myself yet again how good they sound from so many different points. It's almost freaky.
Can't imagine a better speaker for the situation you describe. |

Magico's Next
Well things didn't work out quite the way I was thinking. I had a long talk with a friend of mine who sells and owns Magico's. His room is even smaller than mine. He had similar problems with ported speakers like the Raidho D3;s. Magico's while they weigh in excess of 200lbs, are fully sealed and do quite well in smaller rooms. One thing led to another and now I'm going with a set of M3's due in August/September. The gentleman gave me a decent discount and also offered to take the D3's off my hands which was a huge incentive.
Now the waiting begins. Cincy
