Default Using a MacBook with Audirvana and Tidal as server...

... I have actually found a Situation when streaming Tidal comes in handy - I own several pressings of great music on Vinyl that were only released in this stupid „colored/splatter“ Vinyl... or worse still - as picture disc. In this case the quality of the vinyl is indeed inferior. This is something that has been annoying me for quite some time and I usually refuse to rebuy the same album on CD. In this case Tidal is actually useful. Generally I think it really depends on the used mastering and on Vinyl also the quality of the pressing.

Well pressed Vinyl from a good master (analog preferred) always sounds best - but then there are inferior pressing and/or different masters used on digital sources.

The way to go is probably really to run all three sources and select the best quality available...

I was running Audirvana on a MacBook Pro into a McIntosh MA7900 Integrated amp and used an iFi Micro USB 3.0 to clean up the USB signal. I decided to put an Intel NUC board in a fanless case and installed the Linux based Daphile player, all this to replace the MacBook with Audirvana. The result was striking. A veil was removed and the SQ improved considerably. I would say a reasonable low cost solution as Daphile is free. Next step will be an sBooster to provide 19VDC to the Intel NUC. I run Qobuz and have moved my iTunes library and HD tracks to the SSD.

... well - I have pretty much been on a little discovery journey since starting this thread (and/or related threads) and probably a lot of stuff I originally posted won‘t hold up to my current opinion anymore...
