I still enjoy my SA8001 I bought back in 2008. Nowadays I send non-SACD signal via toslink to my CP-800's built-in DAC for analog conversion. Because my CP-800 can't decoded DSD, I still use the 8001's built in DA chips for SACD playback. I still enjoy it a lot. I imagine the 8004's sound shows it's been improved significantly since my version came out.

I am enjoying the SA8005 that I recently picked up. I bought it mainly for SA-CDs, but it also makes my Redbooks sound better than they ever have.

I compared Redbooks thru the Marantz DAC and going thru the separate DAC and could not hear a difference so I turned off the digital output to get cleanest signal from the analog outputs!

I am also listening through the SA8005. It is easily the most musically satisfying disc spinner I have had to date. It replaced a $1600 Arcam player for about 1/2 the money. Marantz's reputation for musicality is justly earned. Having read many postings over the years about various Marantz pieces, the theme that umbrellas the discussion is the listenability of the brand. Detail, 3dish sound staging, smoothness of texture, even frequency response. It is increasingly intriguing to me how brands truly do establish a "sound". Years ago the story in tube preamp land was that ARC had a dryish presentation and CJ a warmer lusher sound. In my personal experience with both brands that labeling turned out to be more accurate than not.

I use a SA8003 in my vintage rig with great results. I also had a SA8001 which was a great sounding SACD/Redbook player as well. Great bang for the buck players!
Regards,
Jim

Bought my SA8004 from crwilli almost 2yr ago and continue to be very pleased with the sound when I spin a CD/SACD. Occasionally think I need to 'upgrade', but then realize I "need" a new power source or an US RCM much more (or a new cartridge or TA or ..........) than a new CDP.

Glenn, As nice as the SA8004 is, it does not equal the K-03x. I am hoping you purchased the recent one from Ivan. Much more $, but likely the last spinner I will ever buy as I do not need, or want, the last 0.005%. Craig

Maybe you should consider stepping up to a K-01X
