Default COVID19 job casualty

Well, after +40 yrs with the same company via mergers and acquisitions, the effects of COVID19/oil price collapse, I finally became a casualty. I beat the previous 30 attempts, #31 got me yesterday. I will wait for the economy to improve before I try to find something to keep me busy and insured. The sun still rose today, so all is not bad. I am not ready to retire.

Very sorry to hear this...I hope you find other employment soon. 40 years of experience should count for something.

Sorry to hear. But when one door closes another one opens up. I like to think about a different phase of life - retirement is a loaded term. I quit my soul-sucking corporate job four years ago and never looked back. I now consult for a number of different companies and I love what I do.

You’ll find something more engaging and rewarding. Good luck with the hunt!

Tom

That sucks but, as Tom said, when one door closes another opens.

Best of luck with your job search!

Thanks guys for the words of encouragement. For several reasons this was probably the best outcome for me at this particular time. Believe it or not, I think I would like to teach/mentor young minds.

I am hoping that your period of "inactivity" will be short, and that you will indeed see this as an opportunity rather than a setback in the bigger picture; may it be an inconvenience, not a calamity. I have prayed for you as well.
