The new McIntosh MA5200 is rated at 160 watts into 4 ohms, according to Ron Evans. He says it is designed to run cool and work just as well with 4 ohm speakers as 8 ohm speakers.

The MA5200 was the first Mcintosh component I got to try at home for an extended period of time. I had a Marantz receiver that needed a replacement digital board and my dealer offered to loan me the MA5200.
I was blown away by the warmth, smoothness and detail of the sound. I had always been wondering why so many folks pair B&W with Mcintosh and after the demo I understood why. The MA5200 is very conservatively rated. More than enough headroom to power the 804D2s I had at the time to extremely loud volume levels without compressing the sound. I actually have the MA5200 back now as a loaner while my C2500 USB firmware gets upgraded.
While the MA5200 sounds great, the sound stage is much larger with the C2500. The sound just has a "fullness" that I miss. Also, the vocals (especially female) were amazing on the C2500. Hope this helps |

I know this is an old thread, but I recently picked up an mint conditioned MA5200 and can say it sounds good to my ears under many varying loads.
I had it paired up with some Tannoy DC-3's that I have in a 2nd hometheater/tv room setup. I was surprised how much bass those speakers produced, more than I had ever heard before. Yesterday, I brought it to a friend's house who was taking delivery of his new/used B&W 800d2s. For fun, we hooked up the modest integrated and were surprised that it powered the current hungry B&W's without breaking a sweat. I was duly impressed. My friend was even more impressed, as he talked me out of it and now he is the proud owner. I'm now a believer in the Mcintosh integrated amplifiers.

JBT.......I resized your photo for you this time. Prior to uploading photos to AA you need to resize your photos in some photo editing software to a size no larger than 1200 pixels wide in order to view the entire photo on one page without the need to scroll.
