Default Amp For 802D

MC 501's enough power for the 802D's? Thinking of adding a pair?

Thanks.

Yes, looking at the specs of the 501's I would also say they would be a great match for the 802Ds. I currently run a Bryston 4B-SST C Series with my 802 Diamonds which has less power than the 501 and I find the pairing wonderful. At some point in the future I may consider getting a pair of 7B-SST Squared amps but I don't feel any pressing need to adding the extra power.

Have heard that pairing many times. It is an acceptable combination.

I used to have 802N paired with 501's and they sounded great! With 802D, should be no problem. I would say - go for it or if money is not an issue, go 601's!

I have spent many hours in different B&W forums and the mc501 and the cam400 were probably 80% of what was matched up with the 802D's. I used an Anthem amp then went to a Bryston amp when I had 802D's and that was a improvement then once upgrading to the 800D's I moved up to Krell and it was a major improvement when played loud. The 802D's are notoriously hard to drive at loud levels due to there love of dipping into the 2ohm range... Back to your question, the 501's have been driving the 802D's to success for many people for years and the consensus is that you will be very happy with them.

I blew a tweeter and one woofer using my 501s. Hit the clip meter on several occasions. 802ds playing loud will require more power. 601s or better.

Using Mc601s with my 802 Diamonds and I think it sounds great.

Wow, that surprises me because I have driven my 802 Diamonds very loud on a few occasions and my Bryston has never gone into clipping. I wonder if your 501's were out of spec or that there was a defect in the tweeter and it just gave out during a loud listening session but would have happened eventially given more time.

Thanks, all. Upgrading to 601's did cross my mind...then my marriage did too. This hobby must be worse than crack!

Best to all.
