Unrelated to the current tube-rolling discussion:

I have the round knobs on my LP-27a. Dennis has gone back to the black stovetop type knobs on the newer models. I perfer these types. Does anyone have a good source for volume and source selector knobs? I have the Dact volume switch on my preamp and it offers quite a bit more resistance to turning than an Alps pot. I have black and gold preamp, so black would be preferred.

Thanks,
R

If you search "chicken head knobs" you'll find lots of sources including amazon, ebay, tube depot, guitar stores, etc. Tube Depot even has them in a number colors.

Sorry you don't like the round knobs. If you mean the ones with the rubber grip ring around them, I turned Dennis on to them. I think the anodized aluminum is much more elegant than the plastic. But the chicken heads are easier to see settings from a distance or in a dimly lit room.

I have the same ones you do, albeit with an odd lavender rubber ring. My issue (other than the color) is that the DACT attenuator is a bit stiff. Just a trifling detail.

Interesting, the stepped attenuator on my new LP-27a is not near as stiff as my selector switch. I wonder if we have different hardware on the Vol.

On another note, here is the all ST Cathedral version of the PSE.

My issue is that my PSE has a blue LED and my LP-27a has red. How am I supposed to live with that? Just kidding of course. I have them on opposite sides of the room so I can reach the volume from my desk therefore you cannot see them at the same time. Thats how.

Mine are kind of reddish purple but goes well with the red finish of the pre. I also have the DACT but use my streamer/DAC to control volume with remote and pretty much leave the LP-2 control at one setting.

FWIW, although both my preamp and amp units have the Danish DACT with chicken head knobs (black with a white line in the middle), I don't find them stiff at all. These mark each dial step precisely, so one can easily select (and even count) the desired setting quite easily. I imagine even with a round dial it would not offer much resistance, so I wonder if that stiffness reflects some other issue?

Maybe I just have dainty fingers. It probably only seems stiff compared to the Alps pot in my other amp.

There is nothing dainty about someone called Rosco. Just sayin'. Eat more Wheaties.

I have the Alps pot and chicken head knobs.

That looks pretty awesome! Glad they're working out for you I think we need to see them lit up in the dark.
