I'm a gun owner, and that story bothers me, because people will just say, look at that, another lunatic with a gun, killing some smart ass kid, because his dog pissed on the lawn. That was a mistake that will ruined two lives.

I think his attorney will have a tough fight keeping him out of jail.

Chuck.......I agree with you. It was a very foolish thing for the retired Marine to do, and tragic for the young man. Definately, two lives ruined.

The neighbor kid had been previously warned, and this time the Marine pulled his .45 after a heated argument. The kid said, "If you going to pull a gun on me you might as well use it." Be careful what you ask for. You may just get it.
two lives lost, families grief, a dog without his master, very sad.

What I find equally disturbing is the media's aggressive reporting on gun tragedies, and utter failure on reporting the many crimes averted and lives saved every day from the use of guns that were never fired, or used in defense of innocent people from criminals.

I frequent firearm forums as well, and there are countless stories of concealed firearms being "unconcealed" and this deterrent stopping robbery, murder, etc... without a shot being fired.

I found myself in that same situation once. A quick flash of the 1911 .45 was all it took for the hooded hoodlum with his hands hidden in his pockets quickly heading towards my car door at 3 am at an intersection. He turned around and ran even quicker.

Serge.......In my life I have averted several potentially nasty situations in the same manner without ever firing a shot. As soon as it is discovered you are not defenseless, nor afraid to use a weapon if necessary, attitudes change quickly. I do not intend to ever be anyone's victim.
