I really like this chamber orchestra arrangement--gives a wider variety of textures than a solo keyboard.

I had forgotten how tepid this performance is. Berman claimed he wanted to emphasize the concerto's lyrical elements--I guess he succeeded in that endeavor.

Haydn - Piano Concertos Nos. 3, 4 & 11
Marc-André Hamelin, piano
Les Violons Du Roy, Bernard Labadie

This concluded my Haydn-Hamelin collection.
Always a nice listen, and suiting the waiting room wonderfully well.

This complete set has displaced my Brendel set of many years primarily because it is complete and offers quite good performances and sound IMO.

I'm not convinced one can bring much insight to these pieces, though, so I'll be interested to read your comparisons.

Thank you for letting me inspire you.

I compared my Hamelin CDs with 2 other musicians yesterday and today:

Wallisch plays in a delicious way.
The recording is truly excellent.
I gave this album to a friend of mine.
He's a piano player but not an audiophile.
On his modest system, he could hear the quality of the sound, and ever since, he looks for 'SACDs', which he believes must offer the best sound.

This is a different animal of course, because it is played on a fortepiano.
He also improvises transitions between sonatas.

I'll continue my comparison (which as you see is not at all highbrow) with Bavouzet's efforts.
