Onkyo P-3000R with Pass Labs X350.8
This looks like a good combo on paper. If I don't get the Accuphase stuff, which is possible, I was interested in this combo. I was wondering what you guys think. Maybe I have overlooked something here. I have heard the Onkyo preamp, and it's very, very good. At $1699 it's almost a no-brainer. I haven't heard the X350.8 yet. Now, you might be wondering why I'm not getting a Pass Labs preamp. Simple, not enough features, and not as user friendly as the Onkyo or other preamps such as the McIntosh for example.
Here's a cool review of the Onkyo preamp: Audiophile Musings: Onkyo P-3000R Preamp Review |

Glancing at pictures alone via your link it does not appear to have balanced outputs. The pass amps require a balanced connection to take advantage of the super symmetry patient ie lower distortion. They will work but just not to the best of their designed ability with a single ended pre.

I have heard the Onkyo P-3000R hooked up to Onkyo's new Power amps, Onkyo's latest high end CDP and personally I thought it sounded quite dreadful.....lacking in resolution and so many other areas.......it reminded me very much of Onkyo's $500 Receivers in sound/build quality.......certainly not on par with Pass Labs, but who knows.....maybe it will be a match........everything is so subjective in this hobby

Ok, I see. Yeah, will do. Worst case scenario, I can buy from Amazon and take advantage of their 30 day money back guarantee if I don't care for it...
