Last night i was able to hear both the C500/500T and the C1000/1000T side by side with the XR100's. I loved the ability to demo these 2 amazing preamps and we had so much fun.In the end i feel that i will be very happy with either model, but i must admit that i felt the C1000 did sound more open/natural and transparent, but there were times when i was wondering if i am just hearing some kind of "placebo" effect.

On certain tracks when we switched from the C500T to the C1000T i could hear a diff, but when switching back to the C500.......the diff seemed so very, very little......confusing at times even......i was really hoping that i would be able to easily pick a "Fav", but i honestly cannot.............however like i said i will be happy with either model...............just wish the C500 had that damm beautiful metal remote lol

Based on what you wrote here, the placebo effect is not in play. If anything you are trying to sell yourself on the 500.

. . . and you'll have more to spend on the bar.

Why should you have to leave the room when you get thirsty?

Well i made my choice and placed my order today ...........I went with the C1000/C1000T ........this was the hardest choice i ever made concerning Mcintosh gear, but in the end the C1000/C1000T combo won me over.........now comes the hard part.....waiting for it

Michael.......A huge congratulations on your new C1000C/T preamplifier. This will elevate your entire system to a new level, not to mention elevating your pride of ownership. You made a good choice. This will be a preamplifier that will stay with you a long time.

Michael.......You probably already know what else I am going to suggest. Scrap those Made in Chine stock tubes to the cabinet for emergency spares and purchase a full set of Gold Lion 12AX7's for the front porch window and two more for whichever phono stage you plan to use. Install the Gold Lion's before you ever set up the preamp. It will put you miles ahead right from the start.
