Default Thorens TD160 upgrade complete-almost (Pics)

Had a real nice Holiday visit with a very good friend on Thursday. I was surprised that He had finished veneering the plinth I constructed for my Thorens TD160, and it looks great, matching the veneer he applied to My Yamaha CR 2040. My Vintage rig is looking very fine indeed! I assembled the table after we got back from Church, and I am very pleased with the outcome at this point. I had completely torn the table down and cleaned everything the applied sound dampening material to the top plat, Bearing/tonearm sub platter, re-polished the bearing and painted the scarred top plate with dark gray hammer tone paint. I am still waiting for the Denon DL103R to arrive so I installed my Sumiko Blue Point #2. After the holidays, I will get serious about setup etc, I just thought those interested would like to see how it is progressing. I will probably replace the arm, or at least rewire it with the 22 ga. solid silver wire I have on hand. I'm considering the Jelco 750 or 370 series, a project 9CC, or SME 309 at this point if I change arms. I want to see how black I can get the noise floor before dropping big $$$ on a new arm.
Happy Holidays,
Jim

That looks very nice.

I've noticed some people doing upgrades on some of these old Thorens TT that make me want to own one.

Excellent project & one deserving of a Thorens TD-160. Looks gorgeous.

Jim.......You have definately raised the bar on the TD-160. It is gorgeous. Job well done. I think every move forward from this point with the Thornes will prove worthwhile and rewarding. Keep us posted.

Ehoove,

Great job on the 160.....I did one a few years ago with Rosewood plinth, Carbon fiber top plate and a Rega 250/Incognito mounted on a Carbon fiber and Phenolic arm board.

What did you think of the 250/incognito?

Jim,

I think the Regas are a great match up with the 160......Lots of the die hard thorens modders go with Regas particually the 250. Also the SME 3009 is popular too.

here is the one I did
