I would agree that suspended tables have a warmer more liquid presentation, but there's absolutely no way in which I would refer to my P5 as cold and clinical. I would say the Rega has a more upfront, punchy, dynamic presentation, a table that kicks the jams out more, my Michell is smoother, warmer, more liquid. I like both very much, but they're kind of like red wines....the Rega is Cabernet, the Michell Pinot Noir.

I'd say the Rega is better for rock and pop, the Michell better for classical, both about the same for jazz.
Agreed too here !

Before I returned to vinyl (2007) my previous tables were from the 70's mostly (pioneer/Dual/Thorens/Yamaha). I did my research before 2007 and knowing how much I wanted to initally spend, not knowing for sure if it would be a fad or I would be a fanatic, I set my outlay limit and was very pleased with the P5. I had a dealer who helped me along, gave his opinion (he carried VPI, SME, Thorens, Pro-ject & Rega). He led me in the right direction and I have returned to him for my prvious upgrades. I feel I made the right choice for my situation.

I too have enjoyed my P5. The last 6 months I put in a bunch of upgrades that transform this table further.

Took the opportunity to snag a GrooveTracer counterweight from Racetripper, as he is moving on from his Rega to a Clearaudio. It arrived today and I mounted it up on the P5. Looks great, and sure puts the mass lower and closer to the pivot. Like all GrooveTracer products, it's beautifully made.

I didn't do a counterweight comparison, Shane, but I will say that my P5 never sounded better!

That table is absolutely amazing fo the money....too bad it's been discontinued.

Stephen, do you have the Groovetracer subplatter on your P5? I would highly suggest this if you don't.
PS Nice looking table.

Oh, yes, of course. It was the first thing I did when I got the P5 was to install my GT Ref subplatter.

I have a way-cool, one-off black anodized one.

Fantastic product.
