I guess it is time for me to pop for the update too. I am using a MyFi Verizon hotspot which the BDP is not connected to. I'm not sure how I am going to load the update. Could I load it to may laptop and get on the same network segment as my Bryston BDP and access it that way? I will have to look at the instructions.

We send you a Bin file that allows you to connect to our server - so you need to be on line and your computer connected to the same router (network) as your BDP. James |

Why throw away so many potential buyers ? Enabling USB Audio should be a simple software fix. Aurender did just that with their (also Linux based) player. |

There may be a misunderstanding here - the BDP-1 is a player not a DAC. Our BDA-1 is a DAC and it has a USB input??? kames |

I'm aware of what BDP-1 one is. In fact, I had one on loan so I'm familiar with the product.
If you enable USB Audio out feature (just like Aurender did, Auraliti in their USB only model etc) you will be able to interface the BDP-1 with any DAC with USB input. Right now you can do that as well, but you have to use RCA or AES/EBU out. Connecting the BDP-1 to the DAC via the USB interface will give you much improved sonics. |

We have not found that USB out improves the sonics - we much prefer AES.EBU james |

My update isn't working.
Here's what happens. I can get to the BDP, I see settings. I select Firmware, I find the file on the desktop. I click update, and it flashes waiting for BDP-1, and does nothing. My BDP is connected to the network, I have an internet connection on the network, the BIN file there. Any ideas?

With USB, you have a free running clock inside the DAC (no PLL necessary) which you can put as close to the D/A chip as possible. Unless the USB input is poorly designed, it has all reasons to sound better. I have tried several DACs with USB input, and indeed, in most cases, USB was clearly superior. |
