Toga.... anything for my Audio Godfather.....ha ha ha

Hello everyone.
This is Amano from Dynamic Audio.

Today, I was able to listen to Accuphase's new product C-3900 a little earlier than everyone else, so I would like to write a brief review.

Accuphase C-3900 List price ¥1,900,000 (separate) The
C-3900 is the successor model to the current flagship preamplifier C-3850. Accuphase's 50th anniversary commemorative model. As shown in the photo, the appearance is almost the same as the old model C-3850. I wonder if the markings are a little bold. This area is the same as previous Accuphase products. You can buy it again! (Who does not write with)
the way photos C-3900 above, below is the C-3850.

Now, what has changed?
・Dual Balanced AAVA circuit (2 circuits are driven in parallel ・AAVA is L/R 8 circuits) The
greatest feature is that two circuits of Accuphase original volume circuit AAVA circuit are used in parallel. This circuit is also used for the C-3850 and the E-800 integrated amplifier, but the C-3900 is the first attempt to use two parallel circuits.
Besides...
・Input amplifier with large output amplitude
・IV conversion amplifier with ANCC
・4 parallel configuration output amplifier
・Newly developed block capacitor
・Further improved volume sensor
etc. Internal improvements have been made.
By the way, what these technologies (especially Dual Balanced AAVA circuit and input amplifier, etc.) are connected to is that the goal is thorough noise reduction. Regarding the noise performance, C-3850 was 115 dB as the numerical value indicated by Accuphase, whereas C-3900 was 118 dB. To be honest, I don't know how much this 3dB makes a difference...

Now, let's review the actual sound quality.

<Listen environment>
Networkplayer: ESOTERIC N-01XD Preamp
①: Accuphase C-3850
Preamp ②: Accuphase C-3900
Poweramp: Accuphase A-250 (monaural power)
Speaker: B&W 800D3 (black)

This time listening is simply C-3850 and C -3900 comparative audition was performed. Listen to a few songs on the C-3850, then switch to the C-3900 and play the same song. Overall, this is the top class in the Accuphase! I have the impression. Honestly, the C-3850 has a slightly different impression from what I felt in other Accuphase, and it seems that it is a high-fidelity sound with a high density and a lot of information in the center, but regarding the C-3900, it is a vast spread like Accuphase. And there is a clear sense of sound image that appears in front of me. For female vocals, the roundness of the C-3850 makes it easy to listen to and has a dense sound, which fluffs up and sings softly. What is interesting is the afterglow. The C-3850, which slowly spreads around your feet, feels refreshing as it disappears into the air. Is this area due to thorough noise countermeasures?
In the case of jazz and other band stuff, the C-3850 is actually better if you want a sense of reality. You can feel the outline of the player clearly. However, the C-3900 has a presence that spreads to every corner of the stage, and above all, it has a good feeling. It was C-3900 that naturally shook while listening to music. On the contrary, for those who enjoy classical music, the C-3850 may be preferred.

As you can see, the C-3900 this time is not a successor to the simple C-3850, but each has its merits.
Right now, we don't have an environment where everyone can compare and listen, but if we can do that, we will announce it again on the blog, so please come visit us at that time.
*Production of C-3850 is already completed. Therefore, we currently have only the remaining inventory.

Hey Ron, thanks for the translation.
I just wish the Anniversary model will be two pieces with separated power supply box.
Hope you guys are all fine.

One of the things I like about the accuphase pre is the level of performance in one box. That’s why ... YMMV.
