Thanks Joe.
Any advice on speeding up break in a bit?
Will leaving it on work or does it need a signal going through? Does a signal need to go through to the amp or is it ok if only the pre is on?
Thanks, Tim.

I would run a signal through it.

Got home tonight to the Ref 5. What a nice piece of equipment, first time I have ever seen one. Up and running and already sounds great. It has only been on for an hour and it only has 238 hours on the clock. So far so good.

Ivan; Do you have to have the amps running too? Or can you hook up just a source and run/loop that?

I know tube amps do not like being on and not having a load (a speaker) connected to them (i.e., you can damage the tube amp that way). I am not sure if the same holds true for preamps (i.e., they need to see a load or a power amp) as well but to be safe I would have the entire chain connected and running.

Thanks, Tim.
If you're referring to running it in to get hours on Teflon capacitors, C-J says you need to be playing real music through them to get them to break in. You don't, however need to have the amp on, just a connection between the pre and and amp, and signal will flow to the amp and will thereby by be running in the caps.

Would love to know for sure, just to save hours on the amp.

I would just call ARC. Ask for Tech Support. They can tell you definitively. If you do, please report back and let us know. Thx
