Sony HAP-Z1ES

But isn’t that what the HAP-Z1ES’s DoP (DSD over PCM) output is doing, converting DSD to PCM? Last edited by Cohibaman; 11-16-2017 at 01:07 AM. |

USB generation 3.2 Gen 2x2 - SuperSpeed+, new 20 Gbit/s (2500 MB/s) data rate over 2 lanes using 128b/132b encoding. We are only getting started with USB. Compare that to 280*Mbit/s of USB 2.0

No. DoP packages DSD and the DAC processes the DoP as DSD. It isn’t converted to PCM |

Sony HAP-Z1ES
If [Auto Gracenote Access] is set to [Off] or if an attempt to access the Gracenote server fails, ? (standby for the transfer (unanalyzed audio content remains)) will be displayed after the indication of the number of files disappears.

Thank you both. Nailed it. While it does have a strong Ethernet connection, it shows this issue.
I just loaded ~3700 albums onto it. Perhaps that choked it? Maybe I should tell the Sony to rebuild the database while it is not also loading files?????

Am wondering if the HAP-Z1EZ might be the way to go for a server upgrade? Has Sony 'upgraded' them since introduction or is a new HAP-Z1ES today the same as they offered when introduced in early 2014 (almost 4yr ago).

They added two key things (among other minor items); 1) added capability for ripping CDs via an external CD ROM. 2) added digital output functionality for external DAC via USB. I love mine! Mike |
